Dachau Concentration Camp

The words "Arbeit Macht Frei" meet you at the front gate of the Dachau Concentration Camp which mean "work will make you free". My parents and I traveled to the camp on their visit to Germany and I don't think any of us knew what an impression it would make on us.

"Roll Call Square" Where prisoners were made to stand for hours or even days despite the cold or hot weather.

Beds

Toilets and washing bins.

Lockers where prisoners kept their dish, eating utensils and blanket.

Rows where barracks once stood. Each of the 34 were made to house 200 prisoners.

Prisoners were first taken through the "disinfection cubicles" and then told they were going to take a shower.

After which their bodies were taken to the crematory.

Memorials

Memorial for the Polish men who were lost. Every third victim was Polish.
